Kopřivnice ( German  Nesselsdorf ) is a town in Okres Nový Jičín in the Czech Republic . It is located about 30 kilometers south of Ostrava on the Kopřivnička .

history

Nesselsdorf arose in the 13th century near the Schornstein Castle and at that time belonged to the rule of the Counts of Hückeswagen.

In 1910 Nesselsdorf was raised to a market town. The place was best known for the vehicle and railway manufacturer Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau-Fabriks-Gesellschaft (NW), founded by Ignaz Schustala in 1850 , from which the automobile manufacturer Tatra emerged in 1923 . Nesselsdorf was located directly on the German-Czech language border and had a German minority.

After the Munich Agreement , the market town Nesselsdorf came in October 1938 under German management and belonged until 1945 to the district of Neu Titschein in the administrative district of Opava the Reich District of Sudetenland . After the Second World War , the German population was expelled . In 1948 Kopřivnice was granted city rights. In 1976 Závišice and in 1979 Lubina were incorporated. In 1980 Mniší and Vlčovice were incorporated. Závišice broke up again in 1990 and formed a community.
