Life

Ignaz Schustala was a son of the Nesselsdorf bailiff Tomáš Šustala. He comes from a farming family from Drholetz and was orphaned at an early age. His sons were Johann (1854–1899), Adolf (1855–1921), Josef (1858–1940) and Ignaz (1862–1914).

As a profession he learned in Koloredov (German Coloredow ), a place near Mistek , saddler , Wagner and varnisher and went on a wandering 1841. Among the various workshops in which he worked in the following years, that of the court saddler Philipp Koller in Vienna should be mentioned, where he worked from 1844 to 1850. As a result, he returned to Nesselsdorf and set up a workshop for the production of horse-drawn carriages in 1850. As early as 1853 he expanded the company and founded the Schustala & Comp company with the stoneware manufacturer Adolf Raška (Raschka) the Elder (1825–1878) from Nesselsdorf . Raschka took over the commercial management. Schustala endeavored to be as independent of suppliers as possible and had local residents trained by skilled workers whom he recruited in Vienna.

As early as 1854, he was using a steam engine in the company and expanded the business into an industrial company.

He traveled to many countries to sell his various carriages, so he also sold his products in Russia and Galicia. He also supplied the Prussian court, so that he also became a Prussian court supplier .

He opened branches in Vienna, Prague and Berlin .

With the rail connection in 1881, Schustala, who was now alone in the company because his partner Raschka had already died, began building railway wagons. First freight cars and later also passenger and tram cars were built.

In 1890, together with Johann Czjzek von Smidaich, Schustala converted the company, in which his son Adolf (1855–1921) was already involved, into a stock company .
