Mošnov ( German Engelswald ) is a municipality with 756 inhabitants (2016) in the Czech Republic . It is located 16 kilometers west of Frýdek-Místek and 20 km southwest of Ostrava in Kuhländchen and belongs to the Okres Nový Jičín . The cadastral area is 1206 ha.
geography
The place extends at 253 m above sea level. M. to the right of the Lubina river in north-south direction. State road 58 between Příbor and Ostrava bypasses it in the west and north . The international Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava (OSR / LKMT) is located northwest of Mošnov
Neighboring towns are Petřvaldík in the north, Dvorek and Petřvald in the north-east, Trnávka in the east, Kateřinice in the south-east, Skorotín and Skotnice in the south, Sedlnice in the south-west, Malá Strana in the west and Albrechtičky in the north-west.
history
Engelswald probably originated in the 13th century when the territory of the Hochwald rulership was colonized . Opposite him, on the left bank of the Lubin, the settlement Mošnovec was established. The first written message about the German colonist village comes from the year 1367. At that time it was subordinate to the rulership of Neuhübel (Nová Horka) and their largest town. Owners were u. a. the noble family von Helfenstein and from 1660 the counts Vetter von der Lilie .
In 1806 the St. Margarethenkirche was built as a stone building in place of a wooden church that has been documented since 1660. In 1939 the place had 923 inhabitants, including 41 Czechs.
After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Reich and belonged to the Neu Titschein district until 1945 .
After 1945 the German residents were expelled.
The airfield, built between 1955 and 1960, gave the village an upswing. It served as a military airfield until 1993 and was then privatized with the exception of air freight. Today it serves as an international airport for the greater Ostrava area . Mošnov and Mošnovec on both sides of the river have grown together today.
