Sedlnice was owned by the bishops for a long time, part of the place was a fief of the Lords of Kravař auf Hochwald . This resulted in the two villages of Erb-Sedlnice (Dědičná Sedlnice) and Lehn-Sedlnice (Manská Sedlnice).

In 1373 Peter von Choltitz from Pardubitz was named as the owner of Erb-Sedlnitz . In the following, his descendants named themselves Sedlnitzky von Choltitz . Katharina Schiller von Herden, ad. Sedlnitzky von Choltitz was the last mistress of Sedlnitz who came from this family. In 1772 Countess von Canal was used. Chotková, owner of Erb-Sedlnitz. In 1784 the baroque rectory was built and in the same year the dilapidated Erb-Sedlnitz Castle was torn down and replaced by a manor.

Lehn-Sedlnitz also came to the Sedlnitzky von Choltitz in 1472, who owned both villages until 1610. Hartwig Erdmann von Eichendorff bought Lehn-Sedlnitz in 1655 . He came from the Brandenburg noble family of Eichendorff , who had settled in Moravia during the Thirty Years' War .

In 1642 the Swedes invaded and sacked the village. After patrimonial was replaced in 1850, two independent villages were created. In 1863 Lehn- and Erb-Sedlnitz were united into one community. In 1881 Sedlnitz received a train station on the newly opened local railway from Studénka to Štramberk . In 1910 the place had 1,854 inhabitants, most of whom were Germans.

The cholera epidemic of 1866 killed 90 people and in 1918 the Spanish flu killed 40.

After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Reich and belonged to the Neu Titschein district until 1945 .

In 1949 the Dědičná Sedlnice estate was nationalized. In 1950 Sedlnice had 1948 inhabitants. The construction of the civil and military airfield Mošnov also began in that year. Part of Borovec was spun off to Libhošť in 1959 at the request of the population.
