Youth and education

The noble Catholic family of the Barons von Eichendorff had lived in Moravia and Silesia since the 17th century. The ancestor Hartwig Erdmann von Eichendorff came from Zerbow in Neumark to Sedlnitz in Moravia; he died in 1683 in Deutsch Krawarn .

The son of Baron Adolf Rudolf von Eichendorff and Karoline, née Freiin von Kloch, were taught at home by Pastor Bernhard Heike , together with their one and a half years younger brother Joseph von Eichendorff . From October 1801, the brothers attended the Catholic Matthias Gymnasium in Breslau . From 1805 to 1806 they studied law at the University of Halle . When the university was closed in October 1806 at Napoleon's behest , all students had to leave Halle an der Saale within 24 hours. In May 1807 the brothers traveled to Heidelberg via Linz , Regensburg and Nuremberg to continue their studies (1807–1808) there. The last section (1810–1813) of the course took place in Vienna .

Wilhelm von Eichendorff met Emperor Franz II in Vienna . He cultivated friendships with the romantics Friedrich Schlegel , Adam Müller von Nitterdorf , the priest Klemens Maria Hofbauer , the painter Philipp Veit and the publisher Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué . He dedicated three poems to Otto von Loeben .

In 1827 he was appointed District Chief of Trento promoted and real Gubernialrat appointed the emperor.

Since he did not fight the revolutionary intentions of the Italian population of Trient sufficiently, he was raised from office. 1848 was followed by the disciplinary transfer to Innsbruck, where he worked as Gubernialrat at the Tyrolean provincial agency. Poems (selection)

  • Not in a turmoil, no, in nature's lap
  • Dark fate's saying
  • To Isidorus
  • To Isidore
  • To Heinrich Count von Loeben
  • When soft springs lament in a rustling distance
  • Is it the eternal rush of clear sources?
  • The cool autumn scatters its golden leaves
  • So soft spring springs rustle again
  • There are secret, horrific hours
  • A magic forest is open to young hearts
  • I wonder what I probably won
  • The horn strikes, fellow hunters wake up
  • Fog was already fluttering and evening shine
  • How the dark woods rustle
  • In the wild, endless forest
  • Into the horn, into the horn, into the Jägerhorn
  • In the forest, in the forest
  • Goldner Schein has run out
  • To boredom, chef d'œuvre
  • Whale to the promised land
  • Healthy again
  • Sadness and determination
  • The magical Venus
  • The minstrel driving through the air
  • German competition
  • Venus de Medicis and Albert Dürer
  • Three canzons
  • To my brother Josef
