Stian Fredrik Vatne (born May 10, 1974 in Molde , Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player . His body length is 1.99 m.

Stian Vatne started playing handball in his hometown. In 1994 he came to Stavanger IF, where he made his debut in the Norwegian first division. After three years he was looking for a new challenge and joined the Kadetten Schaffhausen . There he won the Swiss Cup in 1999 and the runner-up in 2000, before returning to his old club Stavanger IF in 2001. But he stayed there only a year; 2002 moved to Ademar León in Spain, where he won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2005. In 2005 he moved to BM Algeciras and in 2006 to BM Aragón . With the men from Saragossa he reached the final of the EHF Cup in 2007 , but was defeated by the German SC Magdeburg Gladiators . For the 2009/10 season Vatne signed a two-year contract with Füchsen Berlin , where he played as head of defense. After the end of the 2010/11 season, he ended his career as a professional handball player.

Stian Vatne played 101 internationals for the Norwegian national team ; he played his first international match on May 27, 1994 against the Russian national team . At the 2005 World Cup in Tunisia and the 2007 World Cup in Germany , he was part of his country's extended squad. Vatne also took part in the 2008 European Championship in their own country with Norway .

Vatne took over as coach of the Norwegian youth national team in October 2012.
