history

The company's founder, Johannes Stiegelmeyer , started producing steel wire mattresses in Rödinghausen in 1899 . The move to Herford took place on November 1, 1900. Hospital beds have been manufactured since 1910. In 1924, in addition to the production of metal beds and wooden furniture, Stiegelmeyer motorcycles with 3.8 hp were also developed. After 1945 there were short excursions into the school and space-saving furniture sector. In 1970 the development of facilities for old people's and nursing homes began . Stiegelmeyer furnished the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 and in Munich in 1972 with beds.

In 1989 the subsidiary Stiegelmeyer BV was founded in the Netherlands , which emerged from the former company Medical Patient Handling BV. In the same year, Stiegelmeyer took over the Burmeier furniture factory in Lage (Lippe) . In 1994, additional plants were opened in Herford and Nordhausen .

In 2000, the subsidiary Stiegelmeyer France was founded in France and in 2001 the bed manufacturer Famed in Stolno (Poland), which today operates under the name Stolter , was taken over. In 2002 the subsidiary Stiegelmeyer Oy was founded in Finland .

As part of the realignment of the sales structure, Stiegelmeyer Pflegemöbel GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 2005 and Wiki-Met in Poland, which made beds, was acquired in 2006 .

In 2009 a 900 square meter exhibition hall was opened in Herford and in 2011 Stiegelmeyer Africa (PTY) Ltd was founded in South Africa.

In 2012, Stiegelmeyer founded a service company in order to be able to repair and maintain its own products . In 2014, the new construction of a service and logistics center in Herford went into operation and a new hospital bed was presented under the name Puro .

On January 1, 2017 the companies Joh.Stiegelmeyer GmbH & Co. KG, Herford, Stiegelmeyer Pflegemöbel GmbH & Co. KG, Herford, Stiegelmeyer Assist GmbH & Co. KG, Herford and Stiegelmeyer GmbH & Co. KG Thuringia, Nordhausen were incorporated into the newly founded company Stiegelmeyer GmbH & Co. KG, Herford transferred.

Products

The products are sold under the four brand names Clinic, Care, Assist and Homecare.

  • Clinic stands for system solutions for hospitals. These include above all hospital beds , children's and baby beds , seating furniture, tables, bedside tables, cupboards, nursing chairs and accessories.
  • Care products are primarily used in nursing homes and homes for the elderly as well as in facilities for the disabled. In addition to rehabilitation and care beds, the range also includes seating furniture, tables, bedside tables, cupboards, care chairs and accessories.
  • Assist is a service program for the maintenance and care of hospital and care beds in order to make their use more effective and to extend the service life.
  • Homecare is a line of items that can be used in home care such as seating, tables, bedside tables, cabinets, care chairs and accessories.

In 2011 the newly developed Vertica stand-up bed received the renowned if Product Design Award .

According to its own statements, the Stiegelmeyer Group is the market leader in Germany in the fields of clinics, care and homecare. The turnover in 2015 was around 144 million euros. Every year more than 125,000 beds are produced at the four production sites - the number of beds sold has increased by 82 percent since 2005.

In 2015, the Stiegelmeyer Group employed a total of more than 1000 people, 544 of them at the Herford and Nordhausen locations.
