history

The Südtiroler Sparkasse Foundation was formally legally established in 1992. Due to the banking law in force at the time, all Italian savings banks had to transfer the part of the shares held by the authorities to a foundation. The Südtiroler Sparkasse was founded as Sparkasse Bozen in 1854. In 1992 a stock corporation (Südtiroler Sparkasse AG) was split off for operational activities and ownership of the share capital was set up as a foundation.

The foundation has the mandate to use the income from the banking business operated under private law for charitable purposes. Due to the development of the banking law, the foundation had to sell parts of its shares in recent years. Today it still or again holds 68.81% of the total share capital in Südtiroler Sparkasse AG, the rest is owned by small shareholders.

The foundation is one of the most important cultural sponsors in South Tyrol and is also active in North Tyrol .

activity

The annual dividend that the foundation receives from its participation in the savings banks and the proceeds from the securities assets under management enable the support and promotion of various initiatives and projects, with the foundation concentrating its activities mainly on the province of Bolzano in accordance with its tradition and historical interests. The foundation has no profit intentions and only pursues goals of a non-profit nature.

The promotional activities of the Südtiroler Sparkasse Foundation are determined by the legal requirements and its own statutes. It extends to the areas of art and culture, science and research as well as welfare, philanthropy and social engagement. Funding is given above all to projects that are innovative, valuable or socially relevant and that have a lasting effect. The funding measures should be clearly positioned and enable immediate recognition of the funding activity in the population.
