Stigma menstrual bleeding (original title: Period. End of Sentence. ) Is a short documentary film by Rayka Zehtabchi and Melissa Berton . It was distributed by the streaming service Netflix and was named Best Documentary Short Film at the 2019 Academy Awards .

The short film is about Indian women who are initiating a sexual revolution in the background . A group of women from the north Indian city of Hapur will be accompanied as they learn to operate a machine that produces inexpensive, biodegradable sanitary towels . These are then sold to other women at low prices. Having access to basic hygiene products not only improves monthly hygiene itself, but also encourages women to shed the taboos around menstruation in India . In addition, the women improve the economic situation of their community through their project.

The film premiered on April 5, 2018 at the Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) and has been available on Netflix since February 12, 2019 .

Awards

Period. End of Sentence. won the award for best short documentary film at several US film festivals. On January 22, 2019, the film was nominated for the Best Documentary Short Film category for the 2019 Academy Awards , where the film won the award.
