The Stocksee is a lake in the districts of Segeberg and Plön in the German state Schleswig-Holstein east of the village of Stocksee . It is about 200 hectares and up to 30.2 m deep. The lake is partly part of the nature reserve Mittlerer Stocksee and the surrounding area .
Emergence
Today's lake fills a deeply cut glacier tongue basin from the Vistula Ice Age . This was created by the advances of various glaciers, which pushed large basins free in the soft ground and deposited the material on the side. As a result of this formation, the shores of the lake drop off relatively steeply and the reed belts on the lake shores are relatively narrow. In the lake there are two islands (Großrethberg and Lange Insel) as well as a peninsula, on which, as in the shore zone, are predominantly alder - quarry forests . In higher areas, these wet forests merge into extensively used beech forests.
The lake is classified as having a moderate supply of nutrients. It is privately owned, the designated 99 hectare nature reserve in the southwest, including the islands and the water areas, may not be entered or driven on.
