The Mittlere Stocksee and the surrounding area is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Stocksee , Damsdorf and Seedorf in the Segeberg district .

The 99  hectare nature reserve is registered under number 81 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled in 1974 (date of regulation: April 3, 1974). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Segeberg district. The nature reserve is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein State Hunting Association.

The nature reserve is located in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park on the south bank of the Stocksee . It places an approximately 40 hectare part of the Stocksee and the islands of Großrethberg, Kleine Insel and Lange Insel as well as the Kleinrethberg peninsula and the south adjoining area with the Lütten See under protection. The Lütte See is connected to the Stocksee by a canal. The islands and the peninsula as well as the area around the Lütten See are predominantly forested, the remaining areas are partly used for agriculture. In addition, perennial corridors, succession areas and reed areas can also be found.

Due to the clear water in the Stocksee, numerous molluscs can live here, including pond and river mussels , mud snails and marsh snails , and more rarely also boat snails . They are the food source of various diving ducks , rails and fish .

The forest areas are partially primeval forest-like in character. They have important stocks of dead wood , which are the basis of life for many species of animals, plants and fungi. Here are woodpeckers , owls and various songbirds ago.
