The Henstedter Moor is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities Henstedt-Ulzburg and Tangstedt and the city of Norderstedt in the Segeberg district .

The nature reserve was designated in January 2017 (date of regulation: January 24, 2017). The Nature Conservation Ordinance came into force in March 2017. In the north it borders on the "Oberalsterniederung" nature reserve, with which it forms a biotope network. The “Lütt-Wittmoor” landscape protection area, which was designated in 1966, is almost 82 hectares in size and has largely merged into the nature reserve. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Segeberg district.

The nature reserve is located east of the Rhen district of the Henstedt-Ulzburg community. It represents the Henstedter Moor as part of a former raised bog and heath area , adjacent thereto, in part by Knicks structured grassland - and farmland and forests under protection. Only remnants of the raised bog are preserved. Some areas have been rewetted ; further wetting of areas is planned. The forests in the protected area are semi-natural deciduous forests and in the bog edge areas as broken birch forests and damp forests.

The nature reserve is the habitat of species-rich and partly threatened flora and fauna. The still waters and their surroundings are habitat for amphibians , including the moor frog and the common toad , reptiles such as grass snake , adder and sand lizard as well as dragonflies , e.g. B. the peat mosaic maiden . Wet meadows and grassland are of great importance for various meadow birds such as the lapwing , the double- tailed cock , the corncrake and the curlew , but also other bird species, including the crane , barn owl , quail , whinchat and red-backed shrike . The area is also native to the great hay moth and the blue blue fish . The forest areas are the habitat of bats . The moors and heaths accommodate different peat moss , cotton grass , Sundew , Cranberry , bells , rosemary and heather . There are large areas of marsh grass in the heather . Here, maintenance measures such as mowing, grazing or pesting are necessary to promote the heather .

In order to maintain and upgrade the moor areas in the nature reserve, decussing measures were carried out in advance of the protection and in particular pines and birches were removed, which draw a lot of water from the moor. A further nature conservation-oriented development of the moor and heathland areas is planned. The grassland areas are used extensively for maintenance and keeping open in the form of grazing or mowing.

The area is also used for local recreation . Several paths run through the nature reserve.

There are several old landfills on the edge of the Rhen in the immediate vicinity of the nature reserve , which, however, would not be affected by rewetting measures .
