The cargo ship type B-32 , also B32, is the first post-war series cargo ship type of the Szczecin shipyard Stocznia Szczecińska im. A. Warskiego .

history

The shipyard developed the ship type on the basis of the Nordcoke , built in 1936 , a pre-war design by the Lübecker Maschinenbau Gesellschaft shipyard , which was already distinguished by the use of steel hatch covers . The ship series was produced in 41 units from 1953 to 1959. Due to the improvements made during the current series, the B32 / I (6 units), B32 / II (10 units), B32 / III (5 units), B32 / V (6 units), B32 / VII (2 units) and B32 / VIII (2 units) differentiated. The construction program for this type of ship was also the last in Poland to be powered by a steam engine, but already with completely welded hulls that were joined together in sectional construction. The first ship in the series was the Chulym, named after the Russian city of Tschulym and handed over to the Soviet shipping company Sudoimport in 1953, with hull number 1.

A total of 22 units were delivered to the Soviet Union , 15 newbuildings remained in Poland and two units each went to shipping companies in Albania and Egypt.

technology

The ship's propulsion system consisted of coal-fired steam boilers and a 1288 kW composite steam engine from the manufacturer Zgoda. This acted directly on a fixed propeller with a speed of up to 93 revolutions per minute.

The four holds have a bulk cargo volume of 4484 m 3 and a ball space of 4313 m 3 . The hatch openings of the B-32, which were then very large at over ten by ten meters, made it possible to handle the cargo steamer, which specialized in coal and ore, quickly. The steel hatch covers of the type are divided in the direction of the transept and, when opened, are first opened halfway with the loading gear and placed on the still closed half. Thereupon the pair of hatch covers with tackles and blocks was opened and set up vertically. Opening and closing the hatches only took a few minutes. The loading gear consisted of eight light cargo load beams .
