Stoney End is a music album by Barbra Streisand . The arrangements of the songs were written by Claus Ogerman and Perry Botkin junior .
history
After the not exactly successful attempt with What About Today? to approach current pop music, Barbra Streisand made another attempt in 1970/71. At Stoney End, she focused on songs by songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Carole King . The focus of the work was the songs by Laura Nyro . She played a total of three Nyro songs, including the title track Stoney End. By now, however, Barbra Streisand's fans seemed to have accepted this change of direction and the record was selling far better than the albums of the past four years. The album reached 10th place in the American album charts and, thanks to the selection of songs, is much more believable than the previous album What About Today? .
The single release of the title track Stoney End made it 6th on the Billboard charts in 1971 and number 27 on the charts in Great Britain. Tom Wilkes designed the album cover .
