Storm wind

Stormwind was a German heavy metal band that was founded in Düsseldorf in 1980 .

In February 1980 school friends Niko Arvanitis ( guitar ) and Rudi Kronenberger (guitar and keyboards ), who had known each other since 1977, founded the heavy metal band Stormwind. Soon they found a suitable drummer in Olly Kliem, also a school friend, and began to compose their own songs.

The first demo recordings were made in May 1983 , although the band threatened to break up at the end of the year, as guitarist Rudi Kronenberger decided to leave Stormwind due to the lack of musical success. The then bassist and the singer (both temporary musicians for the studio work on the demos) then left the group.

At this time Niko Arvanitis met the German heavy metal singer Udo Dirkschneider ( Accept ). At the beginning of January 1984 Dirkschneider placed singer Klaus Lemm with Stormwind and at the same time guitarist Wolla Böhm (formerly with Snakebite ) joined the band. After a while, Rudi Kronenberger, who had meanwhile become bassist (stage name "Rudy Kay"), was persuaded to join Stormwind again.

The now defunct German heavy metal magazine “Desaster” published a detailed article about Stormwind in its August 1984 issue. Your band manager contacted Ferdinand Köther in Bochum, who immediately signed the band after a visit to the rehearsal room on his label Wishbone Records for the production of an album.

Stormwind released their debut album in March 1985 under the title "Taken By Storm", which received good reviews from the specialist press despite the poor recording quality .

At the end of June 1985, the recordings for the EP "Warbringer" began, which was released in September 1985 and had a noticeably better sound quality. The EP also met with the benevolent approval of the specialist press.

The recordings for a second album that should appear in 1986 failed because Niko Arvanitis switched to the heavy metal band Warlock .

The band was hit hard by the change from Arvanitis, especially since guitarist Wolla Böhm also left Stormwind and played first with Darxon and then with UDO .

Towards the end of 2002, Niko Arvanitis revised the recordings for the second album, which was never released, and added the guitar solos that had previously been missing .
