The Stornupen ( Norwegian for Great Summit ) is a 2275 m high mountain in Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . In Gjelsvikfjella it rises in the southern part of Nupskammen .
The first aerial photos of the mountain were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named the mountain, mapped it on the basis of aerial photographs and surveys of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and aerial photographs from the years 1958 to 1959 of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960).
