Stoicho Vassilev Breskovski ( Bulgarian Стойчо Василев Бресковски , Stoitscho Wassilew Breskovsky ; born December 25, 1934 in Granit , Stara Zagora , Bulgaria ; † January 15, 2004 in Sofia , Bulgaria) was a Bulgarian paleontologist .

His father Vassil Breskovski was a teacher and later a lecturer, his mother Parashkeva Breskovska was a teacher in Plovdiv . Stoicho attended grammar school there from 1948. 1953 to 1958 Breskovski studied geology in Sofia at the Kliment-Ohridski University . He received his doctorate there in 1974 under Vassil Tzankov and completed his habilitation in 1981. From 1975 to 1995 Breskovski was curator and research assistant for the paleontological collection of the Museum of Natural History in Sofia. From 2001 until his death he worked at the Museum of Paleontology at Sofia University. Stoicho Breskovski died after a long heart disease at the age of 70.

Breskovski's specialty were the ammonites of the Lower Cretaceous ( Barremium ). But he was also very interested in the implications of paleontological research for the theory of evolution , paleoecology , geochronology and chronostratigraphy . He also made good contacts with colleagues from Europe , especially from France .
