Straight-Queer Masculinities
Straight - Queer Masculinities denote aconcept introducedby the American sociologist Robert Heasley to denote forms of deviant masculinity in heterosexual men that do not fall into the current hegemonic paradigm of masculinity . Heasley's approach is situated in the context of Critical Heterosexuality Studies . He himself describes his youth as that of a straight sissy boy .
He distinguishes six types of straight-queer men and boys:
- Straight sissy-boys (on German about: hetero queen ; heterosexual or präheterosexuelle boys who show in their youth and childhood behaviors that are likely attributed to girls - for example, lack of sportsmanship, interest in dolls, sewing, etc. - and therefore. are considered gay by their peers and may be ridiculed),
- Social-justice straight-queers ( straight men and boys who advocate the social issues of lesbians , gays , bisexuals and transgender people ),
- Elective straight-queers (heterosexual men and boys who " flirt " with behaviors that are viewed as gay and celebrate them within a certain framework),
- Committed straight-queers (heterosexual men and boys who - more radical than the elective straight queers - understand queer masculinity as an integral part of their lives),
- Stylistic straight-queers (" metrosexual " men who choose fashion, style, clothing etc. that are traditionally not considered to be suitable for men),
- Males living in the shadow of masculinity (men who find themselves between adaptation and non-adaptation to classic male role models without being able (or willing) to make a conscious decision).
Within the social sciences and psychology , in recent years increasingly critical side to the lack of empirical studies on gender-roll compliant homosexuals and gender-roll non-conformist heterosexuals noted that classic in almost all studies, especially for Geschlechtsrollennonkonformität in childhood (the homosexual with subsequent orientation Context) must be hidden. In Germany , in 2003, Thomas Grossmann , following on from his study Pre-Homosexual Childhoods (in which he compares the biographical narratives of formerly “boy typical” and “boy atypical” gay men), pointed out the relevance of the study of “ pre- heterosexual sissy boys ”.
