Thomas Grossmann

Thomas Grossmann (born June 1, 1951 in Hamburg ) is a German psychologist , psychotherapist and non-fiction author . Grossmann has published guides for gays and lesbians since 1981 .

Grossmann was best known for his book Gay - so what? , the first edition of which was published by Rowohlt-Verlag in 1981 as the first guidebook from gays to people coming out . Revised new editions appeared in 1991 and 1994.

1986 followed the book or the other way around. gay - and then what? , with which gays and lesbians should be supported in partnership and other questions in the socially difficult situation at the time.

With the book A Love Like Any Other. Living and dealing with homosexual adolescents from 1984 (extended edition 1991), Grossmann wrote for the first time a guide for the parents of gay and lesbian adolescents. In it, the problems of gay and lesbian adolescents are openly addressed and explained.

In 2000, Grossmann received his doctorate from Gunter Schmidt with the dissertation Pre-homosexual childhoods: An empirical study of gender role conformity and gender non-conformity in homosexual men in childhood, adolescence and adulthood .

Biographical

Grossmann studied psychology and business administration and works as a freelance book author and psychological psychotherapist in Hamburg. Grossmann has been involved in the gay movement since 1972, and in AIDS work since the 1980s .
