Stranded (computer game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stranded is a Adventure - computer game in the first-person view , where the player in the role of a shipwrecked slips and fights on a desert island survival.

Game flow

There are two different modes: play on a single island or on a random island. The individual islands usually contain smaller orders that the player has to fulfill in order to win. They can also be edited or newly created in the editor integrated in the game .

The Random Island mode generates a fixed height map and randomly places objects such as palm trees and animals on it. The goal here is to survive on the island until you manage to build a raft with which you can escape from the island. There are several ways to get yourself food: by simply harvesting grain, by killing animals and eating their meat, or even managing to bake bread. Fresh water springs ensure that the player gets enough to drink. In addition, the water from springs in combination with a leaf can be kept in the inventory and drunk at any time without the player having to rely on a spring.

An important element of the game is the ability to combine items. Practical tools such as a hammer , spear or ax can be assembled, with the help of which the player can unlock new options. For example, various huts and tree houses as well as a campfire can be built with the hammer . When the player has gained enough experience in assembling, he can finally build a raft and try to escape from the island with it.

Development history

The game was programmed and published in 2003 by Unreal Software (Peter Schauß).

The source code was later released, but without a license specification.

continuation

After the success of Stranded, Schauß began programming a successor that reached alpha in 2005. In July 2007, four years after the first part, the sequel appeared under the title Stranded II , and in 2008 an update appeared. The graphics have been greatly improved compared to the predecessor and the game has been expanded to include an "adventure" mode, in which the player can play through a complex story that leads to several different islands. In addition, there are significantly more objects in Stranded II than in the first part, e.g. B. boxes, new palms and bags of gold, which there are new ways to play and combinations of objects.

In 2009, Stranded II was placed under a non-free Creative Commons license (non-commercial, cc-by-nc-sa 3.0).

Peter Schauß has been working on Stranded III since 2012.

reception

Stranded was a success and was discussed positively in four different German computer game magazines as well as the Rhein-Zeitung .
