Strathmore is a city in southern Alberta , Canada . It is located 40 km east of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway .

history

In 1883 Strathmore was laid out as a workers' settlement on the Canadian Pacific Railway and in 1905 moved about six kilometers north. The railway line between Strathmore and Cheadle was the scene of a record in track construction: 1.6 km were laid within an hour and after just one working day Strathmore was connected to the town of Cheadle, 15 km away. At the suggestion of the Canadian government, more and more settlers came to Strathmore, which caused the population to increase. Today the city has lost its importance because it is no longer next to a railway line.

Strathmore is an agricultural parish where petroleum and gas can also be found. There is a lot of commuter traffic to the nearby city of Calgary .

There are three elementary schools, two secondary schools and two Catholic schools in Strathmore. Until 2007 the Convenant Bible College Canada , a theological school, had its seat there. However, this had to be closed due to falling student numbers and financial problems.

The city, located at an altitude of 970 m, had 10,336 inhabitants in 2006, divided into 3,943 households. With an area of ​​15.59 km² results in a population density of 655.7 inhabitants per square kilometer.
