Strathmore is a city in southern Alberta , Canada . It is located 40 km east of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway .
history
In 1883 Strathmore was laid out as a workers' settlement on the Canadian Pacific Railway and in 1905 moved about six kilometers north. The railway line between Strathmore and Cheadle was the scene of a record in track construction: 1.6 km were laid within an hour and after just one working day Strathmore was connected to the town of Cheadle, 15 km away. At the suggestion of the Canadian government, more and more settlers came to Strathmore, which caused the population to increase. Today the city has lost its importance because it is no longer next to a railway line.
