Stratiomys singularior is a fly from the family of gun flies (Stratiomyidae).

features

The flies reach a body length of 11 to 13 millimeters, with the males being significantly smaller than the females. Their bodies are compact and the females' abdomen is relatively wide. The head has a black base color, is hairy whitish and has two yellow spots on the forehead and on the crown. The scutellum is black, its rear edge is yellow. The abdomen is black on the back and has a pattern with yellow spots, the abdomen is black, only the rear edges of the sternites are yellow. The males have long hairy compound eyes , in which the upper ommatidia are significantly larger than the lower. The abdomen is pale yellow and has long yellow hairs.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in western and southern Europe. One finds the imagines in the summer when visiting parsley family .
