The Shrubby gromwell ( Lithodora fruticosa ) is a plant of the genus Lithodora in the subfamily of Boraginoideae within the family Boraginaceae (Boraginaceae).

Vegetative characteristics
The shrubby stone seed is a low, loosely branched shrub that reaches heights of 20 to 100 centimeters. The narrow foliage leaves are linear-elongated, sessile, round-pointed, the younger ones are pressed down with white bristles, the older ones are white-felted underneath with a rolled edge and on the upper side with protruding bristle hairs sitting on humps.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period is between March and June. The hermaphrodite flowers are five-fold with a double flower envelope . The almost completely divided calyx with narrow tips is bristly. The purple-violet or blue corolla has no scales or folds on the inside, is salver-shaped, 12 to 18 millimeters long, with a bald throat and is sometimes sparsely bristly on the outside of the lobed hem. The enclosed stamens are all inserted at the same level.
The one or two nuts ( Klausen ) are whitish, striped and warty.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 35, 38 or 40.
Occurrence
The shrubby stone seed is found in Morocco , Algeria , Spain and France. It thrives in the garigue and in sparse forests.
Taxonomy
The first publication took place in 1753 under the name ( Basionym ) Lithospermum fruticosum by Carl von Linné in Species Plantarum , page 133. The new combination to Lithodora fruticosa (L.) Griseb. was published in 1846 by August Grisebach in Spicilegium florae rumelicae et bithynicae ... 2, page 531 by placing this species in the newly established genus Lithodora . Further synonyms for Lithodora fruticosa (L.) Griseb. are: Lithospermum consobrinum Pomel , Lithodora consobrina (Pomel) IMJohnst.
