Strict Bridge

The Strengbrücke is a bridge over which the federal highway 1 leads at Werder an der Havel over the Strenggraben, a cut through from the Havel to the Glindow lake .

history

The Prussian King Friedrich I had a canal built (quote) which unites the Havel with the Glindower See and put a bridge over it. It is said to have happened in 1701 . The bridge over a canal-like ditch was already shown on maps from 1680. The reason for the breakthrough between the Havel and Glindow-See was probably the fact that the bricks from the Glindow brickworks could be brought to the Potsdam residence faster and cheaper . In 1773 the wooden bridge was renewed. The traffic on what was then Reichsstraße 1 increased considerably and so the bridge had to be extended and renewed again and again, including in 1867. In 1935, the Strengbrücke was massively built. At the end of the war in 1945 the bridge was blown up. In 1950 a T-beam reinforced concrete bridge was built. It was high enough for the passage of pleasure boats and passenger ships .

At the beginning of April 2007 preparations began for another new bridge. After building a temporary bridge with a carriageway and two combined foot / bike paths, the concrete bridge from 1950 was demolished. For the foundation of the future abutments, 14 ten meter deep concrete bored piles with steel reinforcement were placed on both banks in July 2007, on which the approximately one meter thick base plate rests. When digging the boreholes, wood residues from previous pile foundations were brought to light. The new Strengbrücke was opened to traffic on November 30, 2007.

The Strengbücke from 1867 had a mast flap in the middle of the bridge so that the brick barges with sails could sail to Berlin without having to lay the mast. As a reminder of this technology, stylized mast flaps have been installed in the bridge railing of the bridge that went into operation in 2007. The opening picture shows these elements.

As Streng be particularly narrow in Havel area, sometimes man-made or designated by extension and expansion of navigable waterways made smaller between natural lakes.

Puncture is in the inland waterway transport called a short artificial waterway between natural or artificial waters.
