from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rena Vahlefeld (* 23. November 1938 in Berlin ; † 22. January 2019 ) was a German politician of the CDU and member of the Hamburg Parliament .

Life and politics

Rena Vahlefeld was a translator and housewife. She lived abroad (Asia and USA) for a decade before becoming a member of Parliament . She was married and had two children.

She joined the CDU in 1972 and was a deputy in the school authority and later in the cultural authority. From 1978 to 1982 she was in the Hamburg-Altona district assembly . From January until her resignation in November 1993 she was local chairman of the CDU Hamburg-Rissen .

From 1986 to 1987 (12th electoral term), 1991 to 1993 ( 14th electoral term ) and as a successor from 19 April 1995 to 2001 (15th and 16th electoral term) she was a member of the Hamburg Parliament. There she was on the committee for the situation and the rights of foreigners, in the submission committee and in the culture committee for her group .

Vahlefeld made a name for itself because of internal party criticism in the media. In 2000 she explained her opinion to journalists about the donation scandal surrounding Helmut Kohl . In their opinion, Kohl preached the common good, promoted selfishness and abused the party base. In March 2003 she resigned from the CDU in protest against the Senator for Culture Dana Horáková . She accused the senator of having damaged culture in a very short time, "as it has not been in the last 15 years".

Other offices

Outside of parliament, she was involved in the supervisory board of the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater and on the board of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra .
