Strict & Son

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Strenge & Sohn was a shipyard on the Unterweser in Fünfhausen near Brake .

Johann Friedrich Strenge took over the shipyard in 1848. The shipyard was later continued by his son. Until 1925 mainly sailing ships were built here. The subsequently fallow shipyard was taken over by the C. Lühring shipyard in 1956 .

Mainly ships were delivered for the Weser, Ems , Elbe and the coastal area, such as barges, kuffs, tjalks, ewer , galiots and galeas. But there were also around 20 seagoing ships that left the shipyard as schooners , briggs and barges . The ships and boats were mostly ordered by customers from the local area.

The largest ships, the Bark Ariadne (585 register tons), were delivered to JH Becker & Co. in Brake and the Bark Ocean (490 register tons) was delivered to EH Schwarting in Brake.
