prepared crumble for a crumble cake

Streusel is a simple garnish for desserts and pastries . It consists of one part sugar , one part fat ( margarine or butter ) and two parts flour . Vanilla , lemon , cinnamon , cocoa or chopped hazelnuts for flavoring are common. Fat and sugar are mixed with the flavors and then loosely mixed with the flour until a crumbly consistency is created. The ingredients must not be kneaded too tightly and for too long. Streusel is for countless baked goods like crumb cake , apple , rhubarb or plum cake , Streuselschnecken , Franzbrötchen , Streuseltaler , Crumbles , Shoofly Pie used.

Streusel rolls, soft yeast rolls with a crumble topping, are an Aachen specialty.
