Striga junodii is a plant type from the genus Striga in the family of broomrape plants (Orobanchaceae).
description
Striga junodii is a 30 to 60 cm high, stiffly upright growing, unbranched, parasitic , perennial plant . It is scaly and hairy with stiff hair. The stem is winged. The leaves are 10 to 25 × 1 to 2 mm in size, linearly shaped, with entire margins and have indistinct veins. They stand opposite at the base of the stem, above they stand alternately. The leaves are shorter than the internodes .
The flowers are alternate in an open, grape-shaped inflorescence , which is significantly shorter than the vegetative shoot. The flowers are each accompanied by two bracts , these are 2 to 5 (rarely up to 12) × 1 mm in size, linearly shaped and shorter than the calyx .
The chalice has 15 to 18 ribs and is 11 to 15 mm long. The calyx tube has a length of 7 to 9 mm and is covered with five equally shaped, linear to lanceolate and 4 to 7 mm long calyx tips. This means that the calyx lobes are slightly shorter than the calyx tube. The crown is colored purple. The corolla-tube has a length of 20 to 22 mm, is curved, widened above the calyx and densely hairy. The lobes of the lower lip have a size of 8 to 11 × 4 to 5 mm, they are protruding, inversely ovoid and slightly incised. The upper lip is 5 to 8 × 8 to 11 mm in size and is notched.
Occurrence
Striga junodii is known only from a few collections from southern Mozambique and north-eastern South Africa . The species grows there on swampy soils.
