The Studierendenwerk Darmstadt is a student union for the non-profit promotion of students at the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences . It is a legal institution under public law and was founded in 1921 under the name “Studentische Wirtschaftshilfe Darmstadt e. V. “founded. It is also a member of the umbrella organization German Student Union .

Canteens

The Studierendenwerk operates a total of five canteens . Two of them are on the campus of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences , one on the Stadtmitte campus (parts of it in the Otto-Berndt-Halle ) and one on the Lichtwiese campus of the Technical University of Darmstadt . There is also a cafeteria on the Dieburg campus of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. The canteens themselves also include bistros , some of which can also be located in other buildings. Approximately 1,300,000 meals are provided annually.

Residential complexes

The Studierendenwerk Darmstadt currently (2015) offers a total of 2534 beds in 9 residential complexes. The largest residential complex is the Karlshof , which has 950 rooms in shared apartments spread over 11 buildings . The Karlshof is one of the locations for the film 13 semesters .

Study funding

Approx. 6000 students receive their BAföG through the Studierendenwerk Darmstadt , because in Germany, with the exception of Rhineland-Palatinate, the student services at the university location are responsible for submitting applications.

consultation

The Studierendenwerk offers advice on legal and social issues. There is also a psychotherapeutic advice center.

Intercultural

The area offers workshops, coaching, orientation and events. The student union's intercultural tutors team organizes events, company tours, advanced training and helps international students with organizational issues.

financing

The Studierendenwerk is only 64% financed by its own revenues. 23% comes from the semester fees, amounting to 80 euros per semester, of the students at both universities. 8% come from state grants from the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art and the remaining 5% from expense allowances for BAföG processing from the same ministry.
