The Buddhist stupa on the Wagram is a peace memorial and meditation house on the step of the Wagram to the west of Wagram am Wagram and Feuersbrunn in the market town of Grafenwörth in the Tulln district in Lower Austria .

location

The location is west of the place Wagram am Wagram or Feuersbrunn on the municipality border from Grafenwörth to the municipality Grafenegg or east of the connection route (L7031) from the place Grafenegg to Engabrunn north of the Kremser Ast ( railway line Absdorf-Hippersdorf – Krems an der Donau ) the Kaiser Franz Josephs-Bahn with the train station Wagram-Grafenegg.

history

After projects in Gföhl and Schwarzenbach did not come to fruition, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new construction of a stupa with seminar rooms in the vineyards on the connecting road between Engabrunn and Grafenegg in the Grafenwörth community took place on March 21, 2016 .

The opponents of the stupa, like Gföhl, called for a public survey. Opponents mentioned nature conservation and traffic issues against the project. The ombudsman was in favor of the building permit being repealed and the construction work being stopped immediately. In this regard, a hearing at the Lower Austrian Provincial Administrative Court in St. Pölten was [out of date] scheduled in May 2018 .

After a hoopoe breeding pair had left the area, as determined by a nature conservation review, the Tulln District Authority initially approved the start of construction. The excavation work began on October 3, 2016 with protests and the temporary arrest of one person.

Construction was completed in September 2019 with the exception of the top.

architecture

The stupa was built according to the plans of the architect Matthias Rainer. Up to the dome the stupa is 18.75 m high, with a top 32.5 m. The garden design is carried out with the landscape planners Gunter Hauser and Peter Kramer with the sculptor Hans Muhr .
