Sturkie is an unincorporated community ( unincorporated community ) in Fulton County , Arkansas , United States , with 212 inhabitants (2010).

geography

Sturkie is located about 6.5  mi (10.5  km ) north-northwest of Salem and about 3 mi (5 km) south of the Missouri border in the Ozarks . Most of the houses are on a hill between Bay Creek in the north and Trace Creek in the south, both right tributaries of the South Fork Spring River.

history

After the Civil War , which left Fulton County badly damaged, numerous new settlements emerged, including Sturkie. The settlement received a post office around 1894, which was moved to the current building in 1992, but is threatened with closure. Amish have settled in Sturkie since the early 21st century and are one of the few settlements of their faith in Arkansas.
