Stuttgart Dance and Theater Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stuttgart Dance and Theater Prize (until 2011 the Stuttgart Theater Prize ) is an acting prize endowed with a total of 21,000 euros, which has been awarded annually since 1988 as part of the Baden-Württemberg State Festival of Independent Theaters. Individual prizes are awarded in different categories by specialist and public judges. The prize is announced by the Stuttgart Cultural Office, the Theaterhaus Stuttgart and the State Association of Independent Theaters in Baden-Württemberg.

history

The prize was awarded for the first time in 1988 by the Stuttgarter Zeitung , at that time as a theater prize of the Stuttgarter Zeitung . The award was given annually until the Stuttgarter Zeitung stopped the award ceremony in 2003. The Stuttgart Cultural Office then brought the award back to life in 2005 in cooperation with the Theaterhaus and the State Association of Independent Theaters, and since then has been awarding it for drama or dance theater every year . After an interruption in 2011 and 2012, the prize has been advertised every two years since 2013, now as the Stuttgart Dance and Theater Prize .

Awarding

A board of trustees consisting of directors and theater experts from the Stuttgart region selects the nominees from all applicants, usually professional independent groups, who will present their productions to the jury and the audience at a festival. The expert jury awards the actual Stuttgart dance and theater prizes, each endowed with 6,000 euros in the drama and dance categories, and the special prizes for outstanding artistic performance (4,000 euros in prize money) and exceptional performance (2,000 euros in prize money). The audience award is endowed with 3,000 euros. The main prizes are donated by the city of Stuttgart, the prize for outstanding artistic performance by the State Toto and Lottery Society of Baden-Württemberg, the audience prize by Germanwings GmbH and the prize for exceptional performance by the Stuttgart bookstore Wittwer.
