history

Justin Lee played in various metal and hardcore bands in the local scene during his time at McGill University in Montreal , Canada . After graduating in physics and mathematics , he founded Subliminal Groove Records in 2012. While still a student, the idea of starting a label occurred to him, as many of his favorite bands at the time, including The Afterimage and Beheading of a King, had no record deals had.

However, according to Lee, the first time was difficult. Contacts with The Afterimage and Beheading of a King came about, but there was no record deal. It wasn't until Lee designed a logo for his label and published a website that groups first approached him with the request to make a concert tour possible. He organized five concerts himself. Around this time, the first band, The Room Colored Charlatan , was signed. Ascariasis , who asked Lee for help, also signed a record deal during the concert tour he had booked, before Foreboding Ether was tied to the label shortly afterwards .

The label has also been active in the UK and Europe since 2015 . Simon Garrod, the organizer of the UK Tech-Fest , has hired a new employee at Subliminal Groove.
