Xehanort is the name of the deathcore band that was founded as a solo project by former Rings of Saturn singer John Galloway and existed from 2011 to 2019. The band's name comes from the main adversary of the video game Kingdom Hearts , Xehanort. For a short time, Xehanort acted as a four-piece band.

history

Xehanort was launched as a music project by former Rings of Saturn front singer John Galloway in the winter of 2011. On May 1, 2012, Birth was released, an EP that was only offered as a download. This EP received little response. In December of the same year the EP Secret Reports was released on the music portal Bandcamp . On May 1, 2016, the Birth EP was reissued as a download EP under the title Re: Birth .

The project was signed to the Canadian label Subliminal Groove Records in March 2014 . The debut album Awaken in a Different Dimension , which is a pure concept album, was released via the label .

Due to a psychology degree and the lack of live musicians, Galloway was not able to give concerts with the project until February 3, 2018. After the project had been quiet for a long time, he released his first new piece on June 12, 2015, Dirge of the Parasite .

Xehanort has been functioning as a complete band since March 2017. Galloway was initially supported by the two guitarists Aynsley Giunta and Cory Piscitelli and the drummer Dustin Shade. Together with the announcement to form a band from the project, No Mana, No Problems, the first song from the second album, called Stray God , was released. The album was originally supposed to be released in 2017, but work on the album was delayed, so it was announced for a release on February 25, 2018. Guitarist Piscitelli and drummer Shade have meanwhile been replaced by Jason Berlin and bassist Spence Howard. On February 3, 2018, the band gave their very first concert in Tampa , Florida .

At the end of January 2019, John Galloway announced the end of the music project.

Concept and music

So far, the pieces of the project included phrases from the video game series Kingdom Hearts and from the main series of the game series Final Fantasy , The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , Shadow of the Colossus , as well as from television series such as Naruto and feature films such as The Lord of the Rings .

The music is described as "progressive deathcore" with influences from Periphery , Between the Buried and Me , The Faceless and The Contortionist . But influences from Born of Osiris , Meshuggah and The Algorithm can also be heard in the music of the music project.

Noteworthy

John Galloway is the founder of the sworn-in parody band Sworn Out . With this he attracted more attention due to a legal dispute with this same band regarding several made band articles, which showed great similarities with those of Sworn In.
