The Algorithm is a music project by the musician Rémi Gallego , who comes from Perpignan in France and lives in Cologne . It combines electro with characteristics of progressive metal .

Gallego chose the name The Algorithm to highlight the complexity of his music and electronic music in general.

history

After Rémi Gallego's former band Dying Breath broke up, in 2009 he decided to look for potential members for a new band whose focus, inspired by the band The Dillinger Escape Plan , should be on mathcore . After searching in vain for new members, Gallegos began to produce his own music with the help of his guitar and a digital audio workstation . In December 2009 and July 2010 he released the two demo recordings The Doppler Effect and CRITICAL.ERROR , which were released for free download on his own website. In late 2010, Gallegos announced that he was working on a new EP called Identity , but it was never completed. He was also preparing for his first live performance.

In August 2011, Rémi Gallego published the compilation Method_ , which was also released for free download , on which the songs from the two previous demos were compiled. This was followed in October 2011, an appearance on the year in Cologne held Euro Blast Festival where Gallego next to bands like Textures , TesseracT or Vildhjarta occurred. A month later, Mike Malyan, drummer for the band Monuments , published a drum cover for the song Isometry , which he put on the Internet portal YouTube . After this Gallego was able to convince that it would be possible to play his songs on a real drum kit, Malyan was introduced as an accompaniment to live performances. In the same month Gallego signed a record deal with the British record label Basick Records .

In January 2012 Gallego released the single Tr0jans via Basick Records, which was only available digitally. This was followed by appearances at the second edition of the Djentival taking place in Karlsruhe , as well as at the UK Tech-Metal Fest in London , where he appeared alongside Uneven Structure and Chimp Spanner , among others . On November 19, 2012, via Basick Records with polymorphic code , the debut album the band released, which in addition to the song Tr0jans included seven previously unreleased songs. In January 2013, Gallego played alongside Enter Shikari and Cancer Bats at a concert in Paris . In May the band played a tour alongside TesseracT and Enochian Theory , which took them across the UK. In mid-June the band received the Golden Gods Award in the Best Underground category from the British edition of the Metal Hammer , where they prevailed against bands such as Black Breath , Royal Thunder and Hexvessel .

style

For live performances, Rémi Gallego uses an Akai APC40, a digital audio workstation controller from Akai , which was developed together with the German company Ableton . Furthermore, a distorted female voice can be heard on almost all publications, which comes from Florent Latorre, a friend of Gallego.
