Euroblast Festival
The Euroblast Festival has been an international music festival that has been taking place in Cologne since 2008 with a focus on modern progressive metal . history
At the end of 2007 the friends John Giulio Sprich and Daniel Schneider decided - as there was no corresponding festival before - to create a platform for new and innovative bands of modern rock and metal with their own festival. When organizing the first Euroblast Festival in May 2008, the two founders were able to fall back on their experience as drummers in various bands.
Over time, a team grew around the organizers and they invited more and more bands, so that different styles could be seen at the following festivals. The previously unknown band TesseracT played at the fourth edition of the festival in May 2009 for the first time outside of Great Britain, even before they had signed a record deal. Music labels also became aware of the festival, which meant that several bands were able to sign a record deal after their appearance at Euroblast.
After the fifth edition of the festival in August 2009, it was decided to organize the festival on an annual basis in future. The sixth edition of the festival took place in Cologne's underground in October 2010: When selecting a band, for the first time the organizers concentrated primarily on the Djent movement - a form of progressive rock / metal. Since the seventh edition of the festival in October 2011, which lasted three days for the first time, the organizers have been calling for an annual band contest on the internet platform got-djent.com - with which they have worked closely since the beginning Euroblast Festival is playing.
The eighth edition of the festival took place in October 2012 and was designed over four days, the first two of which took place in the underground and the last two in the Live Music Hall . This was followed by a tour through Europe organized by the organizers for the first time, in which the bands Monuments , Vildhjarta , Jeff Loomis and Stealing Axion took part. Since the ninth edition in 2013, the Euroblast Festival has been taking place in the Essigfabrik in Cologne. The headliners included a. the German band The Ocean and the Dutch band Textures confirmed, and at the end of July it was announced that the Swedish band Meshuggah would be headlining the festival.
Shortly after the end of the ninth edition, the organizers announced that hosting the festival could be on the brink due to financial constraints. Attempts have also been made in vain to obtain subsidies from the city of Cologne, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the EU . A crowdfunding campaign was therefore started to finance the festival. The campaign went well and the tenth edition of Euroblast 2014 was so successful that, thanks to the growing worldwide popularity, nothing stands in the way of a long-term continuation of the Euroblast Festival for the next few years. At Euroblast 11 in 2015, in addition to many newcomers, top-class headliners such as u. a. Between the Buried and Me , Leprous and Cynic , who had their last appearance here before the band split up. The headliners in 2016 were Animals as Leaders , Born of Osiris , Veil of Maya and Enslaved . At Edition 13 in 2017, Devin Townsend , Textures and Twelve Foot Ninja headlined . 2018, at Euroblast 14, u. a. Monuments, Vola , Vildhjarta, The Dali Thundering Concept, Hypno5e .
The 15th edition of the Euroblast, which took place from September 27th to 29th, 2019 in the Essigfabrik, was again able to engage well-known bands from the scene. Headliners this year were u. a. Between the Buried and Me, Voyager, Carbomb, The Hirsch Effect and Uneven Structure. Interesting new discoveries such as Azure, Sunless Dawn and Sleep Token made their festival debut.
The date for the Euroblast Vol.16 has already been announced. It will take place from October 1st to 3rd, 2020.
