The Subra ( Cyrillic Субра , 1679  m. I. J. ) is one of the three main peaks of the Orjen . It is less than 15 kilometers from the Montenegrin coast, so the view from the summit includes not only the surrounding mountains, but also the Adriatic Sea . The high plateau in the area of the summit has an impressive karst micro-relief.

Viewed from the south and east, the mountain looks rather gentle. From the north, however, it looks inaccessible, here the mountain shows a huge rocky semicircle, the so-called "Subra-Amphitheater" ( Subrin amfiteatar ). This rock formation was shaped, among other things, by glaciers that left their terminal moraines 500 meters below. Particularly impressive and one of the area's greatest alpine challenges is the 500 meter high west face.

Climbs

The mountain is quite easy to climb on marked trails. The somewhat more difficult main path leads over the mountaineering accommodation Za Vratlom (1160 m), which is about seven kilometers as the crow flies from Herceg Novi . This path leads over a wild, karstified high plateau, the so-called "Hexentanzplatz". At the edge of the path there are ponors ("swallow holes") that can be up to 188 meters deep.
