Robert Lindsay (actor)

Robert Lindsay Stevenson (born December 13, 1949 in Ilkeston , Derbyshire , England ) is a British actor .

Life and career

Robert Lindsay had his first successes on television in the series Get Some In! He then took on the lead role as the incompetent revolutionary in the series Citizen Smith . Numerous productions of Shakespearean plays for television followed. He was the first choice for the lead role in the drama Cracker , but turned it down because he wanted to be associated with more than just melancholy roles in dramas.

Lindsay has had a successful stage career, including many roles in Shakespeare plays. He received a Laurence Olivier Award and a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his appearance in the 1985 re-production of Me and My Girl in London and on Broadway .

In 2005, he played British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the mini-series A Very Social Secretary . From 2000 to 2011 he played one of the main roles in the series My Family .

From 1974 to 1980 he was married to actress Cheryl Hall. He was then in a relationship with actress Diana Weston, with whom he has a daughter. He has been married to actress Rosemarie Ford since 2006, with whom he has two sons.

Lindsay is an avowed fan of Derby County FC and directed the episode "My Team" about his love for the club for CBBC Newsround .

Lindsay is politically left and was an avowed opponent of Tony Blair and his decisions to take part in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In 2016, Lindsay was awarded the Freedom of the Borough by Erewash .
