The Subway Series is a series of baseball games between two teams from New York City in Major League Baseball .

Historically, the term Subway Series was used for duels in the World Series , but has also been used since 1997 in so-called Interleague Games between the New York Yankees from the American League and the New York Mets from the National League . The encounter between the two former New York teams, the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers , who both played in the National League from 1880 to 1957, are not referred to as the Subway Series as long as they were played in the regular season .

World Series 2000

The name "Subway Series" is often reduced to the 2000 World Series . It was the first World Series between two New York teams since 1956 and saw the New York Yankees victorious by 4-1 games. The Yankees also won the last two games of the series away at Shea Stadium for the New York Mets .

During the 2000 World Series, the city decorated some trains on Subway Lines 4 and 7. Line 4, which stops at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx , was turned Yankees-style white with blue pinstripes and the Yankees "NY" logo decorated. Line 7, which stops at Shea Stadium in Queens , was decorated in the Mets colors blue and orange and with the Mets “NY” logo.
