Sucia Iceland ( Spanish Isla Sucia , Spoiled island ' ; in the UK Little Space Iceland , English for, Little Square Island') is a small and almost completely snow-covered island before the Danco Coast of Graham lands north of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located immediately north of the Ménier Island in the Bay of Flanders .
Her Spanish name first appears on an Argentine nautical chart from 1952. Her name reflects how dangerous it is to navigate this area with its shallows and reef rocks . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the name in 1965 in a partial translation into English. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee , however, named it in 1959 after the problems the crew of the HMS Protector had here in finding a suitable location for a measuring station.
