The Sud-Ouest SO30P Bretagne was a twin-engine French airliner from the 1940s.
development
Brittany was developed in 1941 by a group of designers in Cannes . It was a cantilever, twin-engine, medium-sized all-metal transport aircraft designed as a middle -wing aircraft . The prototype with the designation SO30N was ready to fly in November 1942, but was not allowed to take off due to a ban by the occupying powers Germany and Italy. Therefore, the first flight took place on February 26, 1945.
The first series version was called SO30P Bretagne , although there were two versions with different engines. In addition to the crew, consisting of five people, the aircraft could carry between 30 and 43 passengers. There was also a freighter version called SO30C with a revised fuselage interior, reinforced floor and large cargo hold doors.
Some aircraft were also fitted with Turbomeca Palas jet turbines under the wings. Others were equipped for engine tests with SNECMA Atar 101 engines and Rolls-Royce Nene jet turbines built under license .
The aircraft was used both as a commercial aircraft and as a military transporter.
