history
The land of the present-day city of Sudan was made available to the county as school land in 1892. In 1916 it was sold to Wilson and Furneaux. Real urban development began in 1917/1918 with the construction of a hotel and the start of services by the Santa Fe Railroad , which completed a line from Lubbock to Texico , New Mexico in 1913 . PE Boesen, the local manager and postal worker for Santa Fe Railroad, suggested the name Sudan for the place in 1918. In 1923 a bank was opened and in 1925 the town was granted town charter when the 600 population mark was reached. The first granary was built in 1925 and in the same year the local newspaper "Sudan News" started its work.
