The building at Sudenburger Strasse 23 is a listed residential building in the Magdeburg district of Leipziger Strasse in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is located in the Insel district in a corner at a bend near the eastern end of Sudenburger Strasse on the south side. To the east, the building, which is also listed, is adjacent to Sudenburger Strasse 24 .

Architecture and history

The five-story house was built in 1887 by master mason Carl Hentrich , who was also the owner of the building. The facade follows the angled course of the street so that a distinctive corner of the building results. It is accentuated by a round bay window that is in front of the four upper floors. The facade of the brick building is designed in the neo-renaissance style. On the ground floor there is a decoration with diamond blocks. The roofing windows on the first floor are spanned with triangular gables, on the second floor with round arches. The building is covered with a flat roof . There are two entrances to the building from the street side. Another is arranged below the bay window.

In the local register of monuments , the house is listed under registration number 094 70464 as a monument .

Together with the building on the opposite, Sudenburger Strasse 3 and the neighboring house, Sudenburger Strasse 24, the residential building forms the last remaining parts of the Wilhelminian style development on the street. It was built as a simple historic tenement house in the original working-class district , near the Gruson factory .

Currently (as of 2018) the building is empty and needs renovation.
