Sujit Choudhry

Sujit Choudhry (* 1970 in New Delhi , India ) is a Canadian legal scholar and I. Michael Heyman Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley . The focus of Choudry's work lies in comparative constitutional law.

Live and act

Choudhry studied from 1992 to 1998 at McGill University ( Bachelor of Science ), the University of Oxford ( Bachelor of Arts ), the University of Toronto ( Bachelor of Laws ) and Harvard Law School ( Master of Laws , LL.M.) . After completing his legal clerkship at the Supreme Court of Canada , his path led him to chairs at the University of Toronto (1999–2011, first Assistant Professor and Associate Professor , then holder of the Scholl Chair) at New York University (2011–2014 , Cecelia Goetz Professor) and the University of California, Berkeley, where he still teaches today. There he was also dean of the law faculty from 2014 to 2016 . In 2016, Choudhry faced allegations of harassment from his assistant, which were later dropped as part of a settlement with the university.

In addition to his academic work, Choudhry advises states on constitutional issues. He has already accompanied countries such as Egypt , Jordan , Libya , Nepal , South Africa , Sri Lanka , Tunisia and the Ukraine on constitutional reforms. Choudhry is also director and founding member of the Center for Constitutional Transitions, which is also dedicated to the transition of constitutional forms. He is married and has two children.
