Sulcorebutia tiraquensis is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Sulcorebutia tiraquensis grows individually and only rarely sprouts with flat spherical bodies. With diameters of up to 15 centimeters, these reach heights of up to 12 centimeters and have a barely pronounced or even missing beet root. The thorns can hardly be divided into central and radial spines. The very different 15 to 30 thorns are 0.5 to 3.5 centimeters long.
The light to dark purple or orange-red to red flowers are up to 3 centimeters long and have a diameter of up to 3.5 centimeters. The fruits are olive green to brown and have a diameter of 5 to 6 millimeters.
Distribution and systematics
Sulcorebutia tiraquensis is widespread in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba at altitudes of 2500 to 3200 meters.
The first description as Rebutia tiraquensis was published in 1957 by Martín Cárdenas (1899–1973). Friedrich Ritter placed them in the genus Sulcorebutia in 1961 . A synonym is Weingartia tiraquensis (Cárdenas) FHBrandt .
