Sulcorebutia verticillacantha is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Sulcorebutia verticillacantha grows individually, but more often sprouting with spherical to short columnar bodies. With diameters of 2 to 3 centimeters, these reach heights of 2 to 4 centimeters and have a single or multiply divided beet root. A central spine is missing. The 12 to 14 radial spines are arranged in a comb shape and lie against the body. They are yellowish, amber (then with a darker base) or brown to almost black and 2 to 4 millimeters long.

The orange, red (also with yellow flamed throat) or purple flowers are 3 to 4 centimeters long and have the same diameter. The fruits are olive green to reddish and have a diameter of 4 to 6 millimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Sulcorebutia verticillacantha is in the Bolivian departments of Cochabamba and Potosí spread in altitudes from 3600 to 3900 meters.

The first description was published in 1962 by Friedrich Ritter . Synonyms are Weingartia verticillacantha (F.Ritter) FHBrandt and Rebutia steinbachii subsp. verticillacantha (F.Ritter) Donald ex DRHunt .
