Suleika Ibáñez

Suleika Ibáñez (born December 8, 1930 or 1937 in Montevideo ; † March 7, 2013 ) was a Uruguayan writer , playwright , essayist and lecturer.

Suleika Ibáñez worked from 1958 to 1974 as a teacher in the "Enseñanza Secundaria". She also taught literature at the Universidad Católica de Montevideo , the Instituto de Profesores Artigas and in Melo . As early as 1967 she received an award for literary work that was not made public until 1989. Ibáñez wrote essays, stories and poems as well as novels and plays. In 1975 her essay Herrera y Reissig, su vida y obra was published . Her play Feliz Año Nuevo dates from 1985 . For this Ibáñez received the Segunda Bienal del Teatro Prize . For her poem Homenaje a Jean Genet: nuestra Señora de las Flores , published in 1989 , she was awarded the First Prize of the Intendencia Municipal de Montevideo (IMM). She received the same award the following year. This time her story Retrato de bellos y de bestias was awarded a prize . With her novel El Jardín de las Delicias published in 1991 , Ibáñez reached the final of the Premio Rómulo Gallegos . In 1992 Ibáñez was awarded the First Prize of the Academia de Letras de Montevideo for her essay on Juana de Ibarbourou . In the following year she received the First Prize of the Intendencia of Montevideo for the third time for the poem Experiencias con ángeles y demonios .
