Suleiman Laeq

Suleiman Laeq (* 1930 in Sharana , Paktika ; † July 31, 2020 in Germany; also Laiq , Laweq , Layeq ) was an Afghan poet and politician . He wrote the text of the Afghan national anthem Garam shah, la garam shah at the time of the communist regime.

Life

Laiq studied literature in Kabul and is doing his doctorate in the Soviet Union . From 1957 to 1968 he held various posts in the state media. In 1968 he switched to politics and was accepted into the board of the DVPA . Laiq belonged to the Parcham, the moderate socialist wing of the party, with whose leader Mir Akbar Khyber he was related by marriage. Another sister was married to Sibghatullah Modschaddedi , who later became President of Afghanistan.

After the communist revolution in 1978, Laiq became minister of culture. When the rival Chalq faction expelled all Parcham supporters from the government and persecuted them, Laiq was also briefly imprisoned. In 1981 he became a member of the Central Committee and President of the Academy of Sciences and Minister for Tribes, Nomads and Ethnic Groups .

In September 2019, he was seriously injured in a bomb attack in Kabul that did not specifically target himself. In the summer of 2020, he was in Germany for further treatment of the assassination violations, where he died on July 31. The funeral took place in Kabul.
