Sultanuddin Ahmad

Sultanuddin Ahmad (February 1902 in Munshiganj ; † 1977 ) was a Pakistani diplomat and politician.

Life

Sultanuddin Ahmad received his bachelor's degree in 1922 , his master 's degree in 1924 and his Bachelor of Laws in 1926 at the University of Dhaka .

He worked as a lawyer at Calcutta High Court and Dhaka High Court . He was a public prosecutor in Dakka and assistant tax administrator (remembrancer) for the government of East Pakistan . He was from 1943 to 1947 a member of the Bengal Legislative Council (Imperial Legislative Council). From 1948 to 1952 he was Treasurer and temporarily Deputy Chancellor of the University of Dhaka and a member of the Inter-University Board of Pakistan. Ahmad was Vice Chairman of the Dhaka Central Co-operative Bank and Director of the State Bank of Pakistan.

Sultanuddin Ahmad was appointed ambassador to Rangoon , Burma in April 1952 . In April 1953 he was appointed ambassador to Beijing , where he was later accredited as ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which was founded on March 23, 1956.

On April 26, 1958, Sultanuddin Ahmad was appointed governor of East Pakistan and took office on May 3, 1958. The Chief Justice of the High Court of Dhakar Amin Ahmed took the oath of office from him while the Provincial Interior Minister AQ Ansari read the letter of appointment. After he was sworn in, Ataur Rahman Khan, the Prime Minister of East Pakistan, presented a cabinet to him.

Ahmad was removed from office on October 10, 1958, shortly after the proclamation of the state of emergency in Pakistan on October 7, 1958, and was sent to Jakarta as ambassador in January 1959 .
