Abdul Motaleb Malik

Abdul Motaleb Malik (* in December 1905 in the Kushtia district , Bangladesh ; † 1977 ) was a Pakistani diplomat and politician.

Life

Malik studied at the Visva-Bharati University and the University of Vienna . In 1936 he became a member of the Muslim League and Secretary of the Bengal Muslim League Parliamentary Party . From 1937 to 1947 he was active in the trade union movement in British India . From 1950 to July 1955 he was Minister for Public Works, Labor and Health in the government of Ghulam Muhammad . From July 28, 1956 to October 28, 1958, he was ambassador in Bern and at the same time he was accredited to the governments of Julius Raab in Vienna and Josip Broz Tito in Belgrade and was appointed ambassador to the Holy See.

From 1958 to 1961 Malik was ambassador to Beijing and from 1961 to 1965 to Eulogio A. Rodriguez, Sr. and Ferdinand Marcos in Manila . He served as High Commissioner in Canberra and Wellington from 1965 to 1966. From August 1969 to February 1971 he was Minister for Health, Labor, Works and Social Welfare .

During the Bangladesh war he was governor of East Pakistan from September 3, 1971 to December 3, 1971 , during his term of office part of the 1971 killing of Bengali intellectuals took place. On November 20, 1972, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the war.
